We believe that fasting is a powerful tool for breakthrough, signs and wonders, and hearing the voice of the Lord. In the Bible, it does not say "if" you fast, but rather "when".
In Mark 9: 28-29 we read that a man brought his demon-possessed son to Jesus to heal him, and no one had been able to help the boy.
"When He came into the house, His disciples began asking Him privately, “Why is it that we could not cast it out?” And He said to them, “This kind cannot come out by anything except by prayer and fasting.”
Matthew 6:16-18 “Now whenever you fast, do not make a gloomy face as the hypocrites do, for they distort their faces so that they will be noticed by people when they are fasting. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. But as for you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that your fasting will not be noticed by people but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you."
Matthew 9:14-15 "Then the disciples of John came to Him, asking, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?” And Jesus said to them, “The attendants of the groom cannot mourn as long as the groom is with them, can they? But the days will come when the groom is taken away from them, and then they will fast. "
There are several different types of fasting:
1. No food or water
2. No food
3. Partial fast- this can be a certain type of food, or something like a "Daniel fast" where you eat a specific way
4. Non-food fast (social media, television, a specific hour of the day, etc)
Pastor John Lindell says, As we fast, there will be physical challenges along the way. Some may experience a caffeine headache, some may not feel well. For most there is more than just a little detoxing happening in our bodies. But the battle is more than physiological; as we fast a spiritual battle is being waged. Things are happening in the spiritual realm that we neither perceive nor understand outside of God revealing those things to us.
Our Executive Pastor, Kourtney Owens shared this:
"Fasting isn't just quitting something. It's not a spiritual diet. Fasting is an intentional, spirit-led, holy act of worship. As you fast, you are making space. You are saying, "Lord, I intentionally choose to give you MORE of me", as you removed something from your life that you have relied on more than Him."
So, seek the Lord. Ask Him what He would have you fast. Then, intentionally choose to seek Him as you give up what He has asked of you.
